Hurvin Anderson ‘Double Grille

Radical Landscapes: Art Inspired by the Land [17.02.2024] @ William Morris Gallery

A small exhibition exploring the links between land and politics. Some nice pieces from Turner, Ruskin and Jarman. A new research project has me thinking a lot about enclosures lately. So one of the highlights was Double Grille by Hurvin Anderson. Ornate security grilles restrict access to some lush space in Jamaica. Who/what are they keeping out, who/what are they keeping in? A simple but powerful illustration of the violence of private property.
