IP2029 CONCEPTS AND METHODS IN ECONOMIC REASONING

This module introduces students to some of the most influential political economists of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It aims to give students the knowledge of concepts and methods of traditions of economic thinking and reasoning not covered by mainstream economics. The module covers topics such as: the nature of capitalism; the relationship between politics and economics; the class basis of capitalist society; the rise of the corporation; the role of the state in advanced capitalist economies. By the end of this module, you will be familiar with key authors and approaches in the heterodox tradition and be able to draw contemporary lessons from historical scholarship.
